Frog’s Tooth 2013 Malbec
This Bordeaux varietal exudes flavors and aromas of blackberry, cherry, plum and chocolate. Deemed a “blender” in France and a “star” in Argentina, Malbec is a Frog’s Tooth favorite. It is a medium to full bodied wine with soft tannins and high acidity.
Vineyard: George Town/ Duarte Vineyards
Appellation: Sierra Foothills AVA
Description: One of the traditional big six “Bordeaux varietals”, Malbec has characteristics that fall somewhere between Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. A midseason ripener, it can bring very deep color, ample tannin, and a particular plum-like flavor component to add complexity to Claret blends. As a standalone varietal Malbec is a medium to full-bodied red wine. Ripe fruit flavors of plums and blackberry give it a jammy characteristic.
Malbec Food Pairings: Definitely a red meat wine that is adaptable enough to stand up to spicy Mexican, Cajun, Indian or Italian fare (especially with tomato-based sauces).
Process: Lightly crushed and bin fermented. Then aged in French oak for 18 months.
